Biography:
There is but one Pattern, the Elders say. It may be one Weaving, but I now
know that the Pattern contains countless worlds in it. I know, for now I
have been to two, though not willingly. I am Aias, son of Leonidas.
I am a citizen of Lakonia, capital of Lakedaimon, and I am not of this world.
There are many people in the world, but only the men and women of Lakonia are of
any note. By our spears and our leadership, we guard the lands against the
endless assaults of the Shadow. Like all of my people, I have trained in
combat from the time I could walk. We live simply and communally, a city
of soldiers. That is the way it must be, for in my world the Shadow is
much stronger than it is here. The Trolloc Wars swallowed the last of what
you call the Borderlands. We are a city of full-time soldiers, we live a
hard life for otherwise all humans would be in a Trolloc cookpot or the sport
for the Myrddraal.
I had only just finished the education of Lakonia, only just trusted with
standing watch at the Mountains of Mist when I was taken from here. With a
flicker, Liana Sedai accidentally ripped me from my world and deposited me
here. By the laws of my land, I am a traitor for leaving my post, and I
may never return.
Such are the perils of toying with objects from the Age of Legends or
before. A young man, spear not yet blooded with the blood of a Trolloc
becomes an outlaw without a nation by accident. Were I ever to return, my
own mother would not even acknowledge me as her son. Indeed, she would
most likely stone me to death. The laws of my people are simple, but not
even the highest of the Elders are above them.
I came with her to this Tower of yours, a fortress you built so that you may
cower behind walls like children. I am alone in a strange world, what else
could I do? One of your Indigo Ajah tested me, in accordance with your
laws. Despite eleven years of harsh Lakonian training, your people say
there is still one form of training left that I can go through.
Bring your harshest trainer. I will endure. I am Lakonian.
