Arien Tayden
Profile: Despite hailing from Cairhien, Arien is not short, though he does fall under the rest of the stereotype, being of a pale complexion and having a dark chestnut colored hair with matching eyes. Generally very somber, Arien is definitely a neat-freak, and he is often seen fussing over the smallest of things, such as too much dust on his cloak. Once a very talkative person, he is now very quiet. Arien also has some training in Daes Dae'mar, and he is known to be very careful when speaking to people of importance. Biography: Arien left Cairhien city with his family when he was just a child, and his memory of the place is very vague. Driven from the city due to poverty, the family took what little remained to them and started a small farm on the outskirts of Cairhien and Andor near Braem Wood. Through the following years of his childhood, Arien welcomed several three younger sisters into his family, not including his younger brother who had been with the family on its travel from Cairhien City. When he reached 15 turns, an accident occurred and his father died in the process. Arien was the only one present, and he and his father had been working the fields. Several men had arrived and began making demands of them, and upon his father's flat refusal of the demands, violence ensued. The moment the men began yelling, Arien began to feel funny, both giddy and sick at the same time. Unable to contain himself, he passed out and was awoken by his mother, who appeared un-nerved. He took a bad fever then, and all through the rest of the day he was delirious. Awakening the next day with the fever broken, he was surprised to find a man sitting nearby, his clothing of an odd make and design, and armed which was a rare sight. Telling Arien to take it easy, he told Arien that he had become sick due to his touching of the One Power. He told him that his name was Jaffer Alren, that he came from the Grey Tower, and then he began informing him of what the Grey Tower was like. Confused, Arien finally asked where his father and mother were, and Jaffer quieted, and then spoke with a "Wait here." Leaving a much weakened Arien in bed, the man exited the room. Arien drifted into a light doze as he waited, and when the door next opened, it was his mother and Jaffer. They informed him, through a series of well chosen words, that during Arien's first touch of the True Source, Arien had killed the men who had caused his family trouble, and killed his own father in the process. Disbelief took Arien, and his mother barely held herself together through the telling of find him in the field, and then Jaffer's arrival. Jaffer explained then that he had felt Arien's touch of the source,
and had happened to be traveling down the road in the direction of the
farm. A couple days passed, and Arien spent most of the time by himself,
his sisters trying vainly to get him to play with them as he always
had. Speaking with Jaffer occasionally, he learned more each day of
the One Power, and of the Grey Tower. Finally, after a week, in the
early morning, he woke to find Jaffer in his room again, and he spoke
of taking Arien to the Grey Tower and being taught control. With his
only protest being his family, Jaffer produced a large handful of coins,
and after assurance that his family would receive ample money during
his training, Arien agreed.
