Caien a'Camelle
Profile: Standing 5'6'', Caien has long, curling dark brown hair and brown eyes. She has a slender, well-proportioned figure. While attractive, her appearance is nothing out of the ordinary. Caien is inquisitive and determined, sometimes to the point of being impetuous. She feels and acts equally superior to Caemlyn noble girls who have led a more sheltered life and of soldiers, peasants and barmaids who know nothing of social graces. She often reads and becomes very frustrated with anyone who doesn't like books. Caien often makes a point of trying to beat boys and men at their own game, be it running or some kind of athletics, or dice. Sometimes she succeeds, sometimes she fails, sometimes she wishes she had never had the idea. On more than one occasion during her youth she made caravan guards teach her the rudiments of using weapons. Caien knows that a life as a nobleman's husband is not for her and even when she has tried her best to play that role it hasn't worked. Biography: Caien a'Camelle is the second daughter of Tolan a'Camelle, a successful Caemlyn merchant, and Carina, the daughter of a minor and impoverished nobleman. Tolan, a man of common birth, succeeded in life through talent and hard work, becoming perhaps Caemlyn's leading trader in jewellery, gemstones, and rare and ancient objects. He married Carina in part to give his humble family a place in Caemlyn's noble society. Carina and Tolan educated their children (daughters in particular) in the manners of the nobility. Tolan also, much to Carina's disapproval, sometimes took the children with him on trading trips. Caien's older sister never enjoyed this, much preferring to stay at home in Caemlyn. Caien and her younger brother in contrast enjoyed the journeys and occasional adventures a great deal - even as far as Tar Valon, Cairhien and Lugard. While it was always clear that her brother was meant to succeed to the family business, Caien proved to be a very useful person to have around. She was often able to tell objects of value, or call a trader's bluff, in a slightly spooky way.
Caien became unhappy in Caemlyn in the last few years, finding polite
society restricting and boring. She often tried to go out into the city
on her own, often to unsuitable places. None of the forms of persuasion
her parents tried could make her stop, and she has had very narrow
escapes from both scandal and serious injury. So it was a relief to both
Caien and her parents when recently, at the age of 17, an Aes Sedai
visiting her father's collection saw she had the potential to learn to use
the Source and insisted she be sent to the Tower as a Novice.
