Dana Keld
Pronounced: Dar-nah K-eld
Rank: Novice of the Grey Tower
Profile:
Dana is very young and much about her character reflects this. She has
grown up a poor girl in Cairhien and has always been taught to maintain
her manners and will do unless she feels unnecessarily threatened,
(which, being a teenager, she often does). When she is threatened by
authority she will often react with arguments and a red face and she can say
things without at first thinking about them.
Otherwise, Dana can be very pleasant if a little scatterbrained. She
is very forgetful unless the thing that she must remember specifically
benefits her. This is not a selfish attribute to her personality but
rather just an absent-minded one. She can be petulant but not at all
often and will opt for the "everyone is picking on me" attitude if faced
with a situation that demands she develop her character and grow up a
little.
To summarise, Dana is a thirteen year old girl with a lot of growing up
to do.
Dana's Cairhiennin blood has blessed her with a short stature but
having never left Cairhien she has never felt the discomfort of having to
look up to someone to speak to them. In fact, she has more than likely
reached her adult height and will not continue to grow much taller.
Her eyes are large and staring, giving her a perpetually startled
expression and this teamed with smooth, flawless young skin gives her the
appearance of a china doll. Her eyes are brown and framed by large, wild
black eyebrows and long eyelashes.
The rest of her facial features give her an attractive but very young
appearance and she certainly could not pass for any older than her
thirteen years. She has high and well defined cheek bones, a pointed chin
and generous, red lips that give her a constant pout.
Dana's black curls are long, to her waist and she more often than not
leaves it free from a braid due to how difficult it is to manage. Her
curls are not sleek and glossy but tightly wound and fuzzy like
sheep's wool and they react poorly to any sort of moisture.
She is skinny, not slim or slender and certainly not curvy. Her legs
are like twigs and her lack of any real bosom has resulted in her
looking rather straight and narrow. She is, in short, awkward looking.
Biography:
Dana Keld is the middle child of thirteen born to Rahja and Laureyea,
poor labourers who live in the Foregate of Cairhien. They have very
little to their name and do not even own their home.
As a young girl Dana watched her mother give birth to and bury many
children but as with many poor families it was a matter of life and
expected. From a young age she began working in the kitchen of a bakery in
order to help her family pay the rent and to feed her brothers and
sisters.
Although her upbringing was tough and there was always the question of
where the next week's money would come from, Dana never felt unloved
or left out and she did not wish to be anyone else's daughter.
At the age of thirteen Dana met a woman called Mendai Keminar, she was
a beautiful woman with long dark hair and a red smile and she spoke
with Dana for a considerable length of time before asking to speak very
urgently with her mother and father. It was then that it was explained
to her that she possessed the spark, an ability to control something
called the One Power and that she might one day become Aes Sedai.
As uneducated as she was, Dana was very aware of the Aes Sedai and the
reputation they held in Cairhien. She had also been made aware that
she would have to leave the family home in order to train to become one
of the women like Mendai Keminar. It was a difficult decision, after
all her absence from the family home would mean one less wage to pay the
bills but if she did travel with Mendai to the Grey Tower, then her
mother would have one less mouth to feed and she might one day have the
power to help her family out of poverty.
So, with little apprehension, due to her age and ignorance, Dana left
with Mendai for Elman's Creek where she would begin her training to
become a member of one of the most famous organisations known to man.
