Biography:
I guess I'll start at the beginning. I was born on a small
farm in the Black Hills region, just South of the borders of Saldaea
and Kandor. Growing up on the farm wasn't the best but it wasn't the
worst. We had few neighbor. If we wanted something done, well, we had to
do it ourselves. In hindsight, that was a good thing.
When I was about six or seven, my Gramps came to live with us. He
came all the way from Tar Valon. At the time, I could not believe he made
the trip. No, not because of his age but because I could think of no
place farther away. I could barely believe that Tar Valon was a real
place.
Let me go back for a second. Let me talk about my family. My dad was
a cold hearted man. He only thought of one thing. “Does this help the
work get done”? That's about all he ever says. He is not a man who
cares for the comforts. He only cares that the farm runs the way it
should. He has no time for “waste”.
That's where our troubles began. My older brother Dax, he was
perfection in my Fathers eyes. Dax could do no wrong. Dax was the better of
us. Trust me, I've heard it enough. Dax was the hard worker. Dax was
the smart one. Dax was the heir. Me? I'm “big boned” as my mother
would say. I'm slower. I like to think things out before I act. I like
to know the “why?” before I do things. That made me worthless to my
father.
All of that changed when my Gramps came. He was my Mothers Father,
not my Fathers. He was warm, kind and joked a lot. He was my only
friend. That sounds pathetic doesn't it? Our farm was so far away from any
others, that we would only see our neighbors once or twice a year.
Even then, Dax was the one that everybody would hang out with. The one
that everybody would fawn over. That's why it should not of been a
shock. That's why what happened should have been no surprise.
I still remember waking up that day. It was the day after we got back
from meeting the neighbors. There is an empty field that is equal
distance from all the farms. We meet there and have a picnic. Dax and
Sara had been growing closer and closer for a few years now. The problem
is, Da never wanted Dax to have anything to do with her. He always
wanted Dax to get married to Anna. Anna was a single child. Da always
planned on merging Anna's parents farm with our farm after the wedding.
Dax had other plans. That morning waking up, I felt good. That didn't
last. That night, Dax and Sara had run away. Da was livid. I had
never seen him that angry. That was why I was so shocked when he decided
to send me after them. Me? The useless one? Why me?
“Because the farm could run without me.” Simple really. I packed my
bags and left the farm. It didn't take that long to find Dax and Sara.
They where in a small town four or five days from the farm. It didn't
take them long to decide that town life wasn't for them. It didn't
take much talk from me to make them change their mind either. The problem
was, I didn't want to go back. Even now, I can't remember the name of
that town. Town. That was no town, I know that now. It was barely a
village. I spent a few years on the road. Doing only what I had to.
My “fat useless” body became a little more solid. I thrived on my own.
Then one day, while taking a break from clearing trees on some farmers
land, a guy in a black coat walked up. He “tested” me and told me to
go to the Grey Tower. So, here I am.
