Maria Norakovni
Profile: Maria Norakovni has dark hair and large dark eyes which widen whenever she is surprised, making her appear much more shy than she really is. At 14, she is young to come to the tower and, fearful of the transition from her home in Arafel is hoping to largely escape notice by keeping quiet and watching others. Tall for her age and often ruled by her inquisitiveness, however, she is unlikely to fade into the background. Biography: Maria Norakovni is the daughter of a struggling merchant in Arafel, the youngest of three sisters. Their mother died giving birth to Maria, and her father never fully emerged from grieving, at least not enough to ensure there was always sufficient food and clothing for his daughters. Learning self-sufficiency at an early age all 3 girls went their separate ways as soon as an opportunity presented itself, be it marriage, travel, or a chance encounter with an Aes Sedai one day leading to farewells and passage to Tar Valon the next. Maria had already begun to channel unknowingly, not understanding why her father frequently had more success with bargaining when he took his youngest daughter to watch and she was especially hungry. Although shy and retiring in unfamiliar surroundings Maria quickly became confident selling her father's wares and had resigned herself to a merchants life when an outlander woman with a mysterious, almost regal presence stopped her in the street and whisked her into the nearest inn. Finding that she had learned a common wildersÂ’ trick akin to a mild form of compulsion the Aes Sedai decided she was to come to the Tower immediately, and sensing her potential offered to begin her teaching on the journey in the hope of detecting and breaking any block which Maria may have unwittingly given herself. The very next day Maria began her journey to the Grey Tower, and although too terrified of the Aes Sedai to ask questions, or comprehend much of what was said to her beyond the odd mind exercises she was taken through, she arrived at the Tower filled with resolve to become Aes Sedai.
