Norada Farren
Pronounced: NOR- ah- dah FAH- rhen
Rank: Novice of the Grey Tower

Profile:

Norada, while not ugly, has a rather unremarkable appearance. If one saw here out in a crowded place, he or she would most likely not look twice. Like most Altaran\'s, she has olive skin, though it is of a lighter shade than some. Her shoulder length hair, a dark tone of chestnut, frames her face. Her best feature would probably be said to be her almond shaped dark gray eyes. Her face is a bit too long and thin, working with her small, slender body to give her a frail appearance.

Growing up in the Rahad, Norada learned to be tough. In a wild place like that, a prospective fight was always lurking around the corner for men and women alike. Since she has left her homeland, she has calmed down a bit, but some of her aggressive nature still shows through no matter how hard she tries to restrain herself.

One can always know when Norada is angry or offended about something. Undoubtedly when she is irked, she will coolly arch an eyebrow over her eye, and her lips will thin visibly. In fact, quite a bit of the time, her feelings can be predicted simply by watching her mouth. A thinning of her lips when she takes offense to something, or a wide smile when she is happy. Often when she is stressed or nervous, she will chew on her bottom lip as if it were her last meal.

While she tries to be polite, she is extremely touchy. The slightest offense can have her ready to reach for the nearest weapon. This is not at all strange behavior in the Rahad, and she often forgets that she is no longer in her home and must act accordingly.

Over all though, Norada is a likeable person. Her brazen, bold nature can be shocking when someone first comes into contact with her, but when he or she gets used to it, it can often be a humorous and even endearing quality. And while she is easily offended, her fits of anger don\'t usually last long.

Biography:

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and pass....

In room above a noisy tavern in Ebou Dar's Rahad, a newborn babe was crying. Her loud wails were a strange accompaniment to the sounds of tavern brawls and merrymaking. The child was Norada Farren.

Norada was the daughter two of the Rahad's most well known citizens. Her parent's owned the Willing Maiden, a popular tavern in the Rahad known for its entertainment, brawls, and boisterous patrons. So needless to say, her childhood had very few dull moments.

She grew up much like the other children of the Rahad did, picking fights and acting up. At an age when girls who grew up in more refined places were learning to cook and sew, Norada's mother was teaching her how to handle a knife. Over the years of practice and a few chance experiences, she became rather good.

When she was fourteen, she began serving at her parent's tavern. She found that she enjoyed working there and interacting with the diverse and interesting patrons. Fights over drunken misunderstandings, games of dice, or anything else broke out often, and nothing was ever boring.

Norada continued to work at the Willing Maiden until she was seventeen. One night, she noticed a woman sitting alone at one of the tables. Through the night something kept drawing her to the woman. She would go to ask her if she needed a refill of her drink when it was clear that she did not. The woman was just so... out of place, it seemed. There was an odd ageless quality about her face, and she didn't have the look of an Altaran at all.

Close to the end of the night, the woman beckoned her over to the table. It was the first time that night that she had actually sent for Norada. "Tell me, child, what is your name?" the woman asked in a silken voice.

Norada's lips thinned in displeasure. She was not one who enjoyed being called child, even if it might be a bit true. Another time, she might have replied with a saucy remark, but on that night she stayed her tongue. "Norada Farren, mistress," she replied.

"I am Danae Yulin," the woman said, "If you please, Norada, I would like to have a few words with you...."

Over the course of the night, Norada learned that Danae was an Aes Sedai of the Grey Tower. When she learned this, Norada was a bit awestruck. Often, she had thought of the Aes Sedai and Asha'man in the Grey Tower in the Mountains of Mist. She had always held them in a sort of reverence, and occasionally dreamed of becoming one of them.

That night, she learned that her dream could come true. Danae Sedai informed her that she had the ability to learn to channel. Norada had a choice to make. Stay with her family in the Rahad, or travel with Danae Sedai to the Mountains of Mist to become a novice in the Grey Tower.

Being the opportunist that she is, Norada bid her family a tearful farewell and left for the Mountains of Mist. The rest of her story is yet to be fulfilled.
