Background: Tiras visited twice a week, and tried his best to install values into his son. Aiken was brought up that damane were not evil, but that they were people. That they had a gift. He was taught the values of honor and righteousness. Shortly after Aiken's birth, he was about five, the Empress found out about Tiras and ordered his death. So Tiras and Nerith, with their son, fled the country. On the coast of Seanchan, the Empresses army caught up with Tiras and his family. They had no choice but to delay the enemy to let their son escape. So they set Aiken on a boat, with there trusting servant Miraj, and held off the army as long as they could. So Aiken watched as his family got butchered. Shortly after departing, they reached the shores of a strange land. All that Aiken had with him was a huge sword that he could barely lift, and an old man, Miraj, to help him get by. Soon Miraj became very ill and died, And Aiken was left with nothing save a sword on his back. Aiken traveled the world living of scaps of food he could find, and taking jobs as a guard or fighter. He was a mercenary for higher. He faced Trollocs and the Blight, and men who thought they could steal his food. Then one day a man he was hired to kill, beat him at his own game, but did not kill him. Instead, he offered for him to train at the Grey Tower, to become a better fighter, so that one day they could fight again. And so Aiken left in search of this Tower.
