Talathiri al'Saladhe
Profile: Physical appearance: a grey-eyed and fair-skinned young girl, with her dark hair in braids coiled around her head. Short (5'2) and slender, with graceful hands, she looks as though she might be pretty one day when she grows into her looks; at the moment she is a very average teenage girl. Her face is very quiet and she looks as though she thinks more than she talks. Personality: Tala (her usual nickname) is very kind and affectionate, but quiet and shy. She is easy to talk to and has a knack for attracting confidences and for sympathy and empathy. She is utterly unable to resist a challenge and can be extremely stubborn, but has a surprising lack of confidence in her own abilities and appeal. She believes firmly in rules, hierarchy and authority, but has a dry sense of humour and an occasional streak of mischief. She is fond of men but somewhat timid in their presence, and makes few good friends but places an enormous value on those she does make. Biography: Born the second of twins to a family on a farm outside Deven
Ride, Talathiri grew up as a perfectly ordinary farmer's daughter. Her
education, such as it was, was mainly in caring for her nine other
siblings and keeping a house, although a retired Child of the Light did
teach her to read and write enough to keep a shopping list. After her
mother's death of a fever one winter, her father sold the farm and went to
help their uncle with his, and the children were cared for in different
homes around the area. Talathiri was sent with her baby sister to live
with a family who wanted a new baby, and had taken Talathiri only
because they needed the extra hands. She missed her mother and hated her
life with the new family, but had very little choice. At age fourteen she
went to visit her mother's cousin, who had trained in the Grey Tower
but been released as a novice as too weak to attain the ring, and this
cousin informed her that she too had the ability to learn to channel. Talathiri, educated by an Amadician, furiously denied it - at which
point her cousin informed her that the only way to be sure was to go to
the Tower and ask to be tested. This she did, and to her chagrin
discovered that her cousin had been right. Stubborn as always, and believing
that anyone who touched the Source was a servant of the Dark, Talathiri
resolved that she at least would not give in - she was going to learn,
but she would not be swayed...
