Terran al'Mordan
Pronounced: TEMPLATE
Rank: Novice of the Grey Tower
Profile:
Terran is 5’8” tall with black hair and hazel eyes. She has a streak of blond that tends to fall in his eyes. She likes to play pranks on people and mess around with her friends. She is extremely loyal to her friends and family and hates people who side-step the truth. Willful to a fault, Terran has been known to get into fights with people in her village when she disagrees with them. Terran enjoys nothing more then taking her bow and roaming the forest with her brothers and their friends. Her brothers taught her to hunt when she was younger, and she is able to hold her own in most contests at Bel Tine.
Biography:
Terran turned over and grimaced. Today was the day. Meron Sedai had said they were leaving today. She watched the sun rising and sighed.
“Terran?” A soft voice caught her attention and she turned to the door. A little girl poked her head into the room.
“Good morning, Aldrina. How was your sleep?”
“I had a nightmare. I dreamt you left and never came back.” The little girl bolted into the room and wrapped her arms around Terran. She looked up at the older girl with large black eyes. “You will come back, right?”
“Of course. Once I become an Aes Sedai, I will come visit and we will go have a picnic in the woods. Ok?” Aldrina nodded.
“Ok. I will let you get dressed.”
“Thank you. Tell Mother I will be down in a few minutes.” Terran watched her sister leave the room and sighed. She gathered her long black hair and brushed it out then braided it. She slipped into her best dress and gathered the pack at the end of the bed. Taking one last look around the room, she closed the door and hurried down the stairs.
Terran’s family was waiting for her in the kitchen. Her older brothers, Olie and Cris tried to hide their sadness by rough humor and her father buried his head behind a book. Her mother kept asking if she needed anything and looking at her as if she had sprouted wings. Only Aldrina acted normally, chattering on about nothing in particular. Terran choked down half a bowl of porridge and a glass of milk, but couldn’t eat more. The family sat around the table, silent, watching each other.
After half an hour, a knock sounded at the front door. They all jumped up and looked at Terran. Aldrina was the first to speak.
“Don’t forget your promise.” The young girl said. Terran smiled and hugged her sister.
“I won’t. I promise.” She turned to her parents. “Dad. Mother. I will be sure to write and tell you when I reach the Tower.” Her mother nodded, blinking back tears and hugged her. Her father cleared his throat and pressed a pouch into her hand.
“This was to be your dowry, but I think it will be put to better use if you took it with you now. Use it in emergencies.”
“Thank you.” Terran felt the tears forming in her eyes and turned to her brothers, who had their cloaks and bags over their shoulders. They were going to ride with her, Meron Sedai and Meron Sedai’s Warder until they reached the Grey Tower.
“Let’s go.”
“The Light bless you, daughter,” her father said. Terran smiled.
“And you, dad.” She opened the door and walked out, followed by her brothers.
Meron Sedai and her Warder were waiting for them when they joined them with their horses. Terran patted her black’s neck and followed the Aes Sedai out of the village, Olie and Cris on either side of her.
“Meron Sedai, I have a question.” Terran said after they had been traveling for a few hours.
“What is that, child?”
“How do you know I can channel? I mean, is there something about my appearance or something like that that let you know?”
“Any woman who can channel can tell when another channeler is nearby,” Meron said. “You are one of the few who are born with the ability to channel. Anytime now, you would have started channeling on your own, though you wouldn’t have realized it. If you had survived the experience of learning, you would have developed a block, something you must get over in order to learn how to channel properly. By taking you to the Grey Tower, I am ensuring that you will survive.”
“Oh.” Terran fell silent and thought about the Aes Sedai’s words.
The trip took several weeks. Finally, Meron pulled her horse up and gestured at the city before them.
“Welcome to the Grey Tower.”
