Yani is short and very petite. She is so tiny and beautious that most people would put her age at maybe five years younger. Quiet and unassuming, she is often overlooked by people who see her as unimportant. Her Golden blonde hair and perfect face are accounted extremely fair. The most beautiful woman in Far Madding, where she grew up. She is also an accomplished tactician. Yani's Ice Blue eyes and beautiful face often put men and many women at ease with her, sure that she can't be very bright. Those that get to know her at all learn quickly just how wrong that they are. Some see Yaniallana's beautiful blue eyes as a weakness. She is blind to the world around her. Although in actuality she sometimes sees better than most people who still have their sight.

Yaniallana Survali is a tiny woman from Far Madding. Growing up in her home town she was unaware of her abilities and never discovered them until she left home at the age of Twenty for Tar Valon. Yani was injured as a child of six, when her father's stableman lost control of one of Lord Survali's horses. Trampled by the runaway horse, Yani spent nearly two years recovering physically. Though she never regained her lost eyesight.

Yaniallana learned quickly at every subject that her father could teach her and soon he was hiring personal tutors to train her in things he himself did not know well enough. By the age of fifteen, there were no longer any tutors available. She spent a few years as a tutor herself before the desire to learn more of the world inspired her to ask her father to allow her to leave for Tar Valon. Unable to deny her anything since the accident, her father automatically agreed with her decision though he was deeply saddened to see her leave. Her mother was indifferent to her leaving. Truth to tell, Yani and her mother have not spoken more than twice since the accident. Dinai blames herself for her daughter's childhood injury and so can not bring herself to face Yani without weeping.Before she reached Tar Valon to train with the Aes Sedai in philosophy, logic, Da'es Daemar and anything else she could be taught Yani learned something she had not thought to learn. She could channel. An afternoon spent in Caemlyn in an Inn found her in an audience with an Aes Sedai of another Tower, who explained to her the situation. Yaniallana went straight on to west Andor with the woman to this other Tower. A place where she might learn still more than even the White Tower could offer her, The Grey Tower.

One night after a trip to the Band of Brothers with some other Tower members, Yani was attacked and violated by a young man who to this day is believed to be at large. Her subsequent pregnancy caused her to be removed from the Tower quietly and to spend her days in isolation somewhere to the West near Toman Head. Unfortunately the Seanchan attacked the village she was staying in and she was captured along with her daughter, now a young girl of 15 years. When it was found that Dinathia had the spark, they immediately collared her. Yaniallana instead was found to be capable of holding the leash and so became a sul’dam. She rose quickly among the ranks of sul’dam and attained the rank of Der’sul’dam in a matter of a few years. Yani hoped and prayed that one day the Light would allow her to rescue her daughter the way she had managed to rescue countless other marath’damane since her becoming a sul’dam. She now has returned to the Grey Tower amid the invading Seanchan and once again begs to be admitted, and perhaps Accepted back into her one time home so that she might continue her training to be Aes Sedai and perhaps one day find her daughter and release her!
