This is a basic categorization of common mission types for the Sovin Tar. Note, any specific mission may be more or less hazardous than represented here, depending on the details of the mission.
Easy missions - Intermediate missions - Hard missions
Missions in this category tend to be simpler, lower risk missions. They tend to be suitable for lower-skilled members of the Sovin Tar. Easy missions do not strictly require the approval of the Sovin Tar leadership.
Training missions
Any mission type may be run as a training mission, with members of the Sovin Tar playing each side in a mock conflict. This is an excellent way for individuals to improve their abilities and become used to the ways of the Sovin Tar.
Patrol/Sentry
Members keep watch over an area. This can be a low-risk patrol of the area surrounding the Grey Tower, a higher-risk patrol around the Citadel, or a hazardous night patrol around an encamped army. Troops on a patrol mission are expected to keep watch for potential hostiles, sounding the alarm and engaging if appropriate.
Search and Rescue/Retrieve
Someone or something has gone missing, and the Sovin Tar must retrieve them. Most of the time, it is a simple matter of someone lost in the woods or losing something of value in a non-hostile area. Still, the risk of bandits or enemy scouts is always present.
Recon
Recon missions provide valuable intelligence about the terrain or enemy actions. They are essential for planning followup missions, so that the main force knows where to go, what to do, and what opposition it may face. Low-risk recon missions involve simply getting in, getting intelligence and getting out. However, sometimes secrecy is essential and there can be no evidence of the company's presence.

Intermediate missions are higher risk than their basic counterparts, and as such are usually closed to the lowest-ranked members of the Sovin Tar. Before beginning an intermediate mission, a seneshal must obtain the approval of one of the Sovin Tar leadership.
Defend
Enemy forces are attacking and the Sovin Tar must protect someone or something. Whether it is a Sovin Tar patrol that got in over it's head or a siege against the Grey Tower itself, the Sovin Tar must act to protect the interests of the Tower.
Search and Destroy
Someone or something is important to the enemy and must be eliminated. This can target small units of enemy troops, enemy supplies, bridges, or even siege engines. Usually straightforward, but occasionally the Sovin Tar must accomplish a search and destroy without leaving any evidence of the Tower's involvement.
Raid
Raids are Search and Retrieve missions performed in hostile territory. The company must take something important and bring it back intact. Supplies, enemy plans, money or other essentials are taken from the enemy.
Escort
Escort missions are much like Defend missions, but the objective is moving to a destination. Frequently in cases like these, the Sovin Tar acts as a guard unit for people or information moving through potentially hostile territory.

These missions possess the greatest risks to members of the Sovin Tar. As such, they are generally limited to fully Raised members. The danger is high, but so is the need. Before a seneshal can run a hard mission, he must obtain the approval of one of the Sovin Tar leadership.
Infiltration
A team must disguise themselves as enemy forces and move among them. Infiltrations are typically performed in order to move among the enemy for further missions such as gathering intelligence, opening up a vulnerable position, search and destroy, assassination, or rescue.
Rescue/Abduct
Whereas a raid targets objects in enemy territory for retrieval, rescue or abduction missions target people in enemy territory to bring back alive. Their vulnerability makes these missions very dangerous. The danger is increased dramatically if the target is trying to frustrate the team's efforts.
Diversionary Strike
Diversionary strikes involve directly engaging in enemy forces to occupy their attention and draw them away from a second mission. This is highly risky as retreat is not an option if the mission goes awry. If the enemy forces learn of the secondary mission, it is up to the diversionary team to hold them away from the vital area.
Assassination
A covert version of Search and Destroy, Assassination missions target enemy personnel for a quick and quiet death. The team must enter secretly, destroy the target and escape before anyone is aware that something has gone wrong. On rare occasion, difficulty is increased by the need to make it appear as an accidental death.
Assault
Sometimes, all attempts at secrecy are thrown out the window and only a direct attack will serve. In Assault missions, the Sovin Tar is deployed as a normal field army. They may be assisted by allies and members of the Tower Guard, or they may act alone.
