Some characters are good at some things, and some are great. Then there are those skills that are exceptional in some way, either because it's something rare and special or because it takes a lot of time and work to be truly exceptional at it; to have mastered it.
These things--special traits and skills--are what the Mastery System is designed to exemplify. Some require either a very special turn of the Wheel (such as berserker or strong will), while others require your characters to learn things that make them grow and achieve greatness in their desired fiends, such as master diplomat or field marshal, or to master a skill, such as the handling of a warhorse. Some fall somewhere in between, but all are things that stand out.
This list is not exhaustive and things may be added in the future. And it's not comprehensive, in that your character can have skills they are good at or even great at but are not on this list; this list is just for those things that are exceptional and that you want to work your character up to mastering.
Please remember that these are ideas for role-playing and storytelling, and are not meant to create all-powerful characters. Someone else may still know more than a person with scholar-related masteries, and even someone with weapon/battle related masteries may still be bested by a better warrior.
Earning a Mastery
Requirements per Mastery: Any two of the following:
- Fanfic (1000 words)
- Long RP (Minimum 5 Posts, Totaling 1000 words)
- Major/Big RP (Minimum 5 Posts, Totaling 1000 words)
Requirements can be repeated, such as two fanfics or two long threads to gain a mastery.
Submit the Mastery Request Form.
Mastery Limits By Rank
- Novices, Soldiers & Drin: 2
- Accepted, Dedicated & Ji'val: 3
- Aes Sedai, Asha'man & Gaidin: No limit
The Mastery System grew out of the old Benefits System, which is why you may see "Benefits" still listed on character pages but that are now "inactive" or why some Benefits that are inactive look a lot like current Masteries. You can read more about the old Benefits System at the link below.
