~ What are some of the first things that come to mind when you think about this fanfic? Why?
This is a very original fanfiction. Most fanfics aren't written from a child's view point, and this one was masterfully done. It also made me wonder what else was going on that Haeden wasn't aware of/didn't understand.
~ Do the events in this fanfic take place in the Wheel of Time? Where? When? Why do you think the author chose this time and location? How does it contribute to the story? How would the story vary in another time or location?
Yes. Judging by the characters and the events, it happened in the Grey Tower. For when....I'm not exactly sure, because I'm not sure whether Haedan is an adult now, or still a child.
~ Is the person's own character involved? Directly or indirectly? If not, whom does the story revolve around? Why might the author have chosen to write about this person(s)? If any of the characters in the story are in the Grey Tower, does the author's portrayal fit what you know of their character? Are any characters from the books in the fanfic? If so, what role do they play? Why do you think the author chose to include that character(s)?
Yes, their own characters are involved- indirectly as far as I can tell. Miahala and Caden are the parents of the main character. I think they chose to write about Haedan because children don't get a lot of attention, and because it was a unique way of looking at the situation. I unfortunately never knew Miahala or Caden, so I don't know if it fits their personalities. Judging by their good bye thread, it is indeed in character for them.
~ Is there a balance of description and room for imagination? Could this balance be improved? If so, how? Is there a balance of dialogue and action versus emotion and though? Could this balance be improved? If so, how?
Balance is awesome! There's just enough description to emphasize that it is a child's point of view, which is perfect for the way the story is told. Dialogue is also balanced; toddlers don't talk a whole lot, and I think Haedan's actions were also a form of dialogue...banging on the table, rubbing his hands together...children communicate with signs and motions as much as with words, so it works!
~ What makes this story unique? Do the characters have unique qualities that make them memorable? Is the plot unique?
The plot is very simple, just a narration of a day in the life, but the character is unique due to age and precocious ability to observe what is going on. That alone makes this story unique among many I have read.
~ Does the fanfic seem organized and structured or haphazard and freeform? Do you think the author started out with a clear plot outline?
I'm pretty sure their intent was to do a day in the life, and it is indeed organized and structured within that guideline.
~ What could be improved in this fanfic? What could serve as a model for others? Do you have any suggestions for the author? Is there anything else you would like to add?
I don't think much could be improved with this fanfic. Its intent is made loud and clear, and I think if any more were added it would ruin the child-like mood that is created. I don't know if there are other fanfics from Haedan's point of view, but I'd be interested in seeing them!
