Introduction to Katana

Taught by Jip Gaidin.

This class is designed to teach you how to write realistically about the use of the katana and similar weapons. The class is good for your first point in the Weapon Skill of Sword.

Many thanks to Firredal Osiellin, Former member, Blademaster and Gaidin, for the lesson material and the use of his class.

Amelia had not expected the nature of these blocks, and had instead been expecting to clash steel upon steel and give solid and forceful blocks - rather than this seemingly tentative and 'pretty' style of blocking. None of the swordsmen she had ever fought with had ever performed these moves in the heat of battle. However, she shrugged her shoulders and foung herself a partner. After exchanging pleasantries that she was not pverly happy to commit to they faced off against each other - with Amelia upon the defensive.

The order in which she tried the blocks was unfortunately not up to her and was dictated by her partener, who began with a few passes and testing lunges that she avoided easily with some basic footwork and her quick agility. Her first real block attempt came a few minutes into their little spar - and it turned out that she had to use the second block, Lighting of the Three Prongs.

His blade flashed forwards in Hummingbird Kisses the Honeyrose, straight towards her and obviously trying to catch her off-guard. She twisted her hips and wrists, bringing her own blade to slide along his for a moment before pushing it to one side and launching a counter upon him that forced him back a step withan indignant look. She smiled at him sweetly, her one eye meeting his two before settling back into Middle Guard.

The second block she was forced to use turned out to the be the first they had been shown - Parting the Silk. Her opponent lashed out at her with Boar Rushes Up the Mountain and she brought her own blade around to stop his almost dead - her knees bending and her fingers clenching to absorn the ompact better - before sliding it off to one side once more a Jip Gaidin had indicated.

The third bloack they had been taught was hte third she had to use against her opponent. She had just forced her opponent backwards with Low Wind Rising when he saw a gap in her defences and moved forwards to exploit it. She shifted her body slightly and brought her blade down in The Kingfisher Takes a Silverback, stabbing downwards and to her side in order to force him to step back once more.

Now that she had managed to naturally replicate all of the shown blocks she now went on the offensive until her partner had done the same. That completed thy nodded at each other and awaited Jip Gaidin's judgement.
