Leiana Posted on: Feb 19, 2009 04:03:52 |
Leiana could feel her mask crumble the moment she slipped through the door. Tears had swollen up in her blue eyes and ran large rivers over her cheeks. She found herself sobbing uncontrollably halfway down the hall. She only wanted to disappear and never be seen again. Jerid Asha'man, however, was not about to let her do such a thing. She had just reached the end of the corridor when his calm, commanding voice spoke. "Stand at attention, Novice." Her body reacted, although her mind was still running. Her feet stood still and she found herself gripping her skirts until her knuckles turned white. She had no idea how she found the will, but her feet turned her around. The sobbing had ceased, but the tears still fell silently and gently down her face. Hastily, she tried to scrub her cheeks when he beckoned her forward. She felt her stomach tighten into knots. She was in for it now, running away from class! How could she not have shielded her feelings appropriately? How could she let them goad her in such a way? It seemed to be the longest walk of her life. The corridor seemed to echo her every step and her mind was screaming at her to keep running, but she knew it would only get worse if she did such a thing. She finally made it down the hall and stood before Jerid Asha'man. He asked her a simple question. Her heart climbed into her throat. This was it. "I'm so sorry I'm so stupid and slow." Her eyes fell to the floor. "I'm a disgrace to the Tower. I thought I could do better, but . . ." her voice trailed off and she bit her lower lip. |
