Yellow Lesson (Milliane Sedai)
Miliane stood waiting while the seats in the auditorium filled slowly. The largest one in the Grey Tower, the room was perfect for the class she'd been asked to instruct. The chatter grew audibly, and she waited patiently for a few minutes for any laggers. The silk folds of her simple green dress whispered as she clasped her hands together atop the wooden podium. The Aes Sedai cleared her throat expectantly, and an instant hush swept over the room. Her face was as calm as any Aes Sedai's who was to share her knowledge about something for a crowd, but there were signs that this Sister might didn't bite those who seeked her help. In fact, Miliane Sedai was known to be one of the kindest Sisters in the Tower.
A few brief moments of embracing Saidar, Miliane's words were now magnified tenfold into the expanse of the great room, overruling any hushed whispers that continued.
"Good day, everyone," she said. "I am Miliane Sedai, Sitter of the Yellow Ajah, and I am here to tell you a little about my ajah.
The best Healers of the Tower, they are members of the Yellow Ajah. If a Channeller with any Talent with Healing that can be considered better than mediocre, the Healers, they almost always invariably answer the calling of the Yellow Ajah upon their Raising. But what is Healing?" She asked rhetorically, casting her eyes over the crowd, "does the term Healing only apply to the body? What about the mind, or the heart and soul of a human being? What is the well-being of the body, if there is no well-being of one's mental and emotional stability?"
The Aes Sedai paused for a moment, watching some of the truly interested scratching down notes on pieces of parchment. She picked out several among them that she had seen more than once performing chores in the Infirmary. "Along with the injuries and battle," she saw several heads perk up at the mention- Green aspirants, I suppose, "follows the Healing and repair. Hand in hand with the Green, or the Battle Ajah, the latter, it is the duty of the Yellow Ajah. We forgo concerning ourselves with the politics and 'minor' events in the world outside of the Grey Tower, instead nurturing and preserving life. As a result, it can be said that our Eyes and Ears network, it is not as wide-reaching as some of the other Ajahs. Our interests lie in Healing, instead of individual goals, such as the Blue often are, or politics and debate such as the Grey, and so we tend to keep our ears to the ground about epidemics or any other strange ailments given flight by rumor.
Now, do not make the mistake that Healing concerns humans alone. Many of our members and aspirants are proficient in herbcraft - myself included. In extenuating circumstances, or matters that do not require the immediate use of the One Power, we do try to use herbs for the healing of our patients. Not only does such practice preserve the energy of our attendants in the Infirmary, but we also like to think that we are helping to maintain a thriving economy in the area around us. Another practice of Healing is the Healing of the mind. Experimental research lately has produced a number of useful weaves for Healing ailments of the mind. For many years, for instance the Head of my ajah, Thiada Sedai, has been among those studying how afflictions of the mind may be helped, treated, and perhaps cured."
A distant cough echoed in the ensuing silence in the auditorium. As many eyes were focused on her face as were focused on bits of parchment, covered in hurried notes. "To some, the Ajah, it's a choice. In the Yellow Ajah, it is a calling; a calling to the Healers of the mind, the body, and the heart of the Grey Tower. I will now take questions."

Three questions, please. If you are more interested in my ajah than I answer here, please feel free to seek me out. I am happy to give you more answers :-)
Grey Lesson (Nora Sedai)
The auditorium was the largest room in the Grey Tower suited for teaching, and they would need it today for all students of the Grey Tower, be they channelers or warders in training, were summoned to be here and to be taught about the Grey Ajah. Although a few dozen students had already arrived, the room still seemed empty, so large it was. The architects that had designed this hall had gone to great lengths to make it so that the words of a speaker before the room would be reflected throughout the entire hall, and indeed, it wasn?t even necessary for the Grey to amplify her voice with saidar.
Slowly but steadily, the chairs filled themselves with the numerous students and before long, the bony and greyhaired Aes Sedai motioned for the chattering childern to have a seat so she could start the presentation. She had little patience with the learning ranks, and had only agreed to return to the Tower to teach this class until another could be found. Pursing her lips, Nora Terp overlooked the class and nearly shook her head. Would these children truly see what the Grey Ajah held? Well, she would do what she could about that, today.
"Your attention will be required for the next hour as we go through the Grey Ajah's goals and purposes. You may address me as Nora Sedai, but speak only when it is your turn to do so. Any questions? Good, then let us begin.
As you probably know, the Grey Ajah occupies itself with mediation and negotiation. It is a simple way to explain the complex goals and attitude a member of this Ajah must possess."
"First of all," she spoke, no expression on her ageless face, "the Grey Ajah travels to the different lands of the world, to settle disputes between rulers and nobles and commoners alike. We strive for peace and unity, and to reach that goal we will go to great lengths to preserve the peace that exists, however feeble it is. Furthermore, we seek to forge treaties that will hold longer than the precarious peace that exists between some factions, hoping to forge lasting bonds of understanding and friendship. When the Last Battle dawns, the nations will have to stand united to face the forces of the Shadow."
Pausing, she let her grey eyes fix some of the students to make sure they realized the dire need for this before moving on to other Ajah goals.
"Another function of the Grey Ajah is to establish the position of the Grey Tower in the world. The Light knows animosity exists towards us, not only from the White and Black Towers but also from the factions that fear all channelers, like the Children of the Light, the so-called Prophet and the conservative leaders of Tear. We try to make the face of the Grey Tower one that is both friendly and strict, a force to be reckoned with yet not one to be feared. To establish this, we confer among each other as well as with ambassadors of those factions, as far as that is possible."
"Also, we are the keepers of the law together with the Blue Ajah. The Grey Ajah has historically had a lot to do with the creation of Tower Law, and we know the laws of all the nations, so we can come up with arguments without having to read through all kinds of documentation. It is a difficult studies, but one that definitely pays off. If you want, you can look into Tower Law after this lecture, and see what our community was founded on."
She pointed at the small book, and continued. "To become a member of the Grey Ajah, a few qualities have to be present in you. First of all, you must not have too hot a temper. Mediation and negotiation require a cool head, many nobles and even Kings are actually quite foolish in their argumentation and it is not a good idea to offend them. Second, you must feel very passionately about peace. It is what we seek, what we strive to create, and to be a Grey you have to be willing to go to great lengths to achieve it. Third of all, you must not be afraid to study. There is a lot of learning-by-heart involved in becoming a member of the Grey Ajah, and that should not be underestimated. To be a Warder to a Grey, you have to pretty much have those same qualities. A Warder of a Grey Brother or Sister is not only a brother or sister in battle, but also one in reasoning. You have to be well-spoken, and a bit of an intimidating look can be useful."
She nodded, tapping the table before her. "Well, that would be the first introduction to the Grey Ajah for you. I will now answer your questions."

(OOC: Three questions on the Greys, please! :)
Brown Lesson (Stefyne Sedai)
Stefyne quietly set her stack of heavy-bound books onto the table before her and turned to gaze appraisingly at those seated before her in the room. Taking this class was an honour, and Stefyne hoped she could...influence...at least a few aspirants towards the wonder of the Brown Ajah by the time she was through. Her lips curled into a slight smile, directed at no-one in particular, and she hoped absently that the action did not result in a teeth-baring snarl; it happened, sometimes. As that thought passed her mind, her eyes began to gaze inwards, and she tapped her finger on her lips thoughtfully. Aes Sedai trained themselves arduosly to control their emotions, to appear cool and serene at all times, and yet Stefyne often found herself forming unintended expressions before she took her features under firmer control. Perhaps all that was required here was a little re-training; she could hold her emotions firmly in-check, surely she could do the same with the wolf. She nodded slightly, and stepped towards the desk to make a note of that: it was something to think on. Once she finished noting down a brief reminder in her notebook, Stefyne was given another, more pressing reminder. A few of the students were shifting restelessly and beginning to talk amongst themselves, waiting for the lesson to begin. Stefyne blinked out at them; for a moment she had quite forgotten where she was. She cleared her throat meaningfully, and the chatter stopped immediately.
The class was now as one in looking up at Stefyne expectantly, and she carefully smoothed down the already-smooth silk of her pale blue skirts. Both the colour and the material of her attire were strange for a Brown, most favouring earthy hues in coarse wool, but Stefyne was far from typical in many ways. Her pale golden eyes glinted as she silently watched the students for a moment, glowing burnished gold and a slightly duller yellow in turns as the light caught them. Stefyne leaned back slightly to rest against the table, and folded her hands in her lap. She wasn't nervous, exactly, but it had been many years since she had been called upon to teach a class, many years, in fact, since she had faced so many of the learning ranks gathered together in one place.
"Greetings." She finally acknowledged the class with a nod, and what she hoped came across as a friendly, open smile; those eyes could not quite fully manage friendly, nor open, of late. "As some of you are I am sure aware, I am Stefyne Sedai, Head of the Brown Ajah. Now, I am going to tell you a little about the Ajah, and I hope that will answer some of the questions I am sure you all have," her eyebrows rose slightly at that and noticed one or two students shuffling anxiously. No, this was not to be a sit-silently-and-listen class, too much risk of her words floating in through one ear and out of the other never touching anything they passed within. "But I do expect questions from each of you before I pass you on this class; I cannot begin to tell you all there is to know about the Brown Ajah in a simple speech, and I am sure you all have particular areas you are interested in regarding the Ajah." She nodded quickly, ignoring the shuffles from the same few seated figures.
"Right, to begin, I am going to tell you a little general information of the nature of the Ajah. We are dedicated to knowledge: the finding and preservation of knowledge, to be precise. The Brown Ajah maintains - and indeed stocks, for the most part - the Grey Tower Library. We both actively seek written documents already in existence wherever they may be found, and also author a great number of our own documents based on our own research. Now, knowledge is a very broad term, and many Aes Sedai and Asha'man of the Brown Ajah dedicate themselves to more specific areas of interest through their lifetime. I, myself, have spent many years studying special abilites, but Wolfkin in particular." She smiled, and this time it probably was more a snarl; the reason for that choice of subject matter should be quite plain. "As I understand it, we are quite famous for absent-mindedness, and ink-sploged noses," there were a few muffled titters at that, and Stefyne gave the class a genuine smile. "I will happily admit to the occasional ink-marked nose, or cheek, or indeed forehead: well, when one's hair does insist on falling over one's face in the midst of important, ink-requiring research, what can you do?
"However," Stefyne's voice took on a serious tone once more, "there is more to being a member of the Brown Ajah than books and ink-stains. As I said, many dedicate themselves to a particular area of research, and often that research cannot be obtained simply through the perusal of books, manuscripts and fragments, though these can provide a great deal of fascinating information. We do travel, though perhaps less so than those of other Ajahs, the Greys and Blues, for example. I myself have just returned from many years of travelling in my pursuit of knowledge regarding Wolfkin - the fruits of which, may I add, can now be found in the Grey Tower library. The Browns do not focus their entire attentions upon matters of the past, though of course there is a great deal to be learnt through history; much of what is now known about the Age of Legends, the Dragon Reborn, and the Breaking of the World - to pick some major examples - is known through the research of the Brown Ajah through the years. Where would we be without this knowledge? Where would we be without a great deal of the knowledge gathered by the Browns since the Breaking? But as I said, we are not all only interested in the past, and history is only one area of knowledge to be discovered.
"To be a Brown is to love books, and reading, to have a genuine interest - a passion - in learning and discovering new things, and to dedicate oneself to the preservation of all knowledge great or small. Most of all, Browns must be prepared always to question things, as without questioning we can never truly learn anything new. And on that note, I open up the floor to your questions for me." Stefyne took a step back and smiled once more, waiting. She knew there was much more to be covered regarding the Brown Ajah, but she had never been one for spoon-feeding, nor actively forcing information upon anyone. Far better - and far more satisfying - to seek it for yourself. That was, after-all, what being a Brown was all about...
OOC: 3 questions for a pass, bonus points for opening out an interesting discussion. Ok, so there are no bonus points, but discussions are always good.
Indigo Lesson (Llewellyn Sedai)
Standing at the door of the small classroom, Lyn greeted every new student in and got their names. Her long auburn hair was braided through with dark purple and gold ribbons, and hung in soft curls down her back. A dress of a lighter shade of purple garbed the long, slim frame. After several minutes, the last of them came in and took their seats. Clearing her throat,
she brought attention to herself, and began the lesson.
?As you know, today?s lesson will be on the Indigo Ajah. I am Llewellyn Phyre Sedai, and I am the Head of the Indigo Ajah. This young man is Terious Phaelir Dedicated, and he will be my assistant today and will be helping teach the class to earn his Raising Requirement, as well as answering questions.? She turned a hand to the young Dedicated. Ever the showoff, Terious made a formal bow over the outstretched hand, then turned it palm-down and pressed a quick kiss to the knuckle. She smiled and shook her head at him, then took a seat at the high stool that sat at the front of the classroom, and continued, ?This is a class for learning, so I will start from the beginning, and you may ask questions along the way. The Indigo Ajah was formed to formalize the study of Talents as well as the study and creation of Objects of the One Power. There are so many such Talents, and so many people with them, it created the need for an entire Ajah of people for the study and discovery of them.? She glanced around. No questions yet.
?We also study Objects of Power, that is; ter*angreal, *angreal, and sa*angreal. And finally, abilities, such as; Dreaming, Pattern Reading, and Wolfkin.? Her own Wolfkin eyes glimmered in slight amusement, ?I have with me today, some trinkets of enormous Power and value to the Ajah. Some of them because we?re not entirely sure what they do, and some because they have been created by the Indigo Ajah using a rediscovered techniques from the Age of Legends. An example of the rediscovered techniques is the waterfall that has water seemingly appearing out of nowhere in the Gardens.?
With a wave to Terious, she continued. As she spoke, he Weaved an Illusion picture that showed everyone what Lyn was talking about. The waterfall that fell out of the wall behind them looked as real as the actual one. She smiled, ?As you can see, the water appears out of nowhere from the Garden wall, and travels down the length of the pool. It is entirely made of stone and moss, and is fused to the Garden wall.? She waved again and the waterfall disappeared.
?An item that you can actual put your hands on now is this; a small crystal ball, with the image of a blood red wolf's head captured within it. 'This piece, when channeling all five powers into it, will allow the user to sense what, if any, violence has occurred in an area.' Now that is a direct quote from the description given with the item. There has not been a recent need to test the ter*angreal, and I have been loathe to create violence just for the sake of making sure it was correctly labeled. We are not sure how much violence is required to make it work, if mere raised voices will do it, or something more serious.? She passed the ball around, and watched it?s progress throughout the room. It would not disappear this day. Nobody would leave the room until it was safely back in her possession.
She directed her attention back to the teaching, ?For your assignment today, I have several questions that I would like you to answer. Firstly, I want you to name three different Talents, and what each one means. Secondly, I would like for you to tell me something you find interesting about the Indigo Ajah. And lastly, explain to me why the Indigo Ajah is considered different from the Brown Ajah. Also, if you have any questions, voice them along with the answers to the three questions I have given you.? She sat back and awaited the first volley of questions and answers.
OOC: Please keep your answers In Character. Also remember to use nice big paragraphs and lots of details. Anything less will be rejected, and you?ll have to try again.
White Lesson (Rossam Asha'man)
It was a bright, crisp morning and the room Rossam had chosen was erring on the side of cold. He considered, briefly, lighting the fire in the grate, but decided against it. As a member of the learning ranks, he, and his contemporaries, had never had the luxury of warmth and comfort to work in. It had built character, strength, a steely determination in those who had been subjected to it that they would pass this class, or that class, that they would complete their impossible chores, and a determination that they would, whatever happened, wear the shawl, or the cord. So many had fallen by the wayside, and it saddened Rossam to think back on those who had not made it to Aes Sedai or Asha'man. Elsinde, Harick, Bryndle, Cathelaine . . . all friends, all close friends, that had made it no further than Accepted. Rossam, Aleatha . . . one or two others from those years . . . they were the few who had been Raised out of the learning ranks.
The old White wiped a stray tear from his cheek, irritated that there was so much dust in this room as to get in his eye. He thought now of the young men and women who would arrive shortly, all of whom - Accepted or Novice, Soldier or Dedicated - who were already thinking - vaguely or exactly - of which Ajah they intended to choose. No doubt some thought they had all the time in the world to decide on this most important of questions. Rossam wished they did, and, perhaps unfairly, wished they could be part of the learning ranks for as long as they wished. They might think it hard to scrub floors, cook food, sweep stables and attend classes, but it was more than true that those days were the best days of their lives. To wear the shawl or the cord was to have a great weight placed around your shoulders. It weighed you down, tied you, by ankle, wrist and neck, to so many great ball-and-chains, problems and arguments you had to drag around with you wherever you went. Old friends became new enemies, and old enemies were wary accquaintences. Everything you had known before being Raised was thrown upside down and back to front and when you eventally managed to find your feet you were sure to be thrown from them again. And now he was Head of the White Ajah. How had he come to this? Rossam let out a quiet sigh for those whose lives were truly about to be changed beyond repair, a sigh cut off by a sharp knock on the door and the entry of the class. They seated themselves quietly, eyeing the old man (whose only indication to age was the shock of white hair that sat on his head) with an oft-seen mixture of curiosity, respect and wariness. There were some keen minds in this class, truly told, and Rossam was hopeful that what he had prepared - aimed to give the simpler minds a slight challenge - would not be nearly enough for the more intelligent in this class. Perhaps they would seek him out later, to find out more about his Ajah. The White was always looking for members.
"Good morning," the wiry Mayener said formally, once they were all seated. His rumbling baritone quitened the last nervous chatterers immediately, and he gave a satisfied nod when all eyes were transfixed upon him. "I am Rossam Noristan Asha'man, Head of the White Ajah, and my task today is to give you of the learning ranks a basic intruodction to my Ajah." This task would normally be left to Yocasta Sedai, his Head of Recruitment, of her assistant, Alfarin Asha'man, but the numbers of aspirants had been down lately, and Rossam had heard rumbling os discontent within his Ajah that both Yocasta and Alfarin were not completing their tasks to acceptable standards. So, Rossam had decided to host this lesson himself, to give both of his recruitment team a chance to res and re-evaluate their approach to their work.
"The White Ajah is known to be an Ajah of Philosophy. But, what is Philosophy? Correctly, Philosophy has been defined as Identification, evaluation, and critical analysis of the categories by which we live and think. But, perhaps, correct definitions is not what you are looking for. Within that definition, the Pattern, beauty, existence, morality, art, the Power and conciousness are all subject to analysis and, subsequently, an attempt to define them 'officially'. So, it seems clear that Philosophy certainly has different 'branches', so to speak. The members of the White Ajah concern themselves with the study and evaluation of these branches. Members of the the White Ajah must have a solid grounding in all Philosophical concentration, and the subsequent theories that are formed around them, but, in most cases, each member has their primary concentration, which they focus on far more than the others. Though, of course there are crossovers."
Rossam paused then, letting all of the children take in his words. This was a difficult subject, and, no doubt, there would be more who were lost by the end of this class. Hopefully, though, one or two would have their interest tweaked.
"So, what are these branches? I will run through each of them, briefly, so as you can all have a think about them. After I have related them to you, I would like you all to have a think and then tell me which concentration you could see yourself studying, if you were to become a member of the White Ajah."
Rossam picked up the piece of chalk on his desk and wrote, in precise, bold letters the first. 'Aesthetics'.
"Aesthetics, in its most basic form, is the study of beauty. How does one determine what is, and is not, beautiful? Is beauty only a visual thing - facially, musically etc. - or can it be the unseen as well? Personality, generosity? The arts has a prevalent part in this branch of Philosophy, and it is known as being the most accessible of concentrations. Within the Tower, Jessica Sedai is known as an expert on esthetics."
The first topic dealt with Rossam moved through the rest with barely a pause for breath, each branch name written clearly on the board and a brief explanation on each dictated, scribbled and absorbed.
"Axiology, which is the study of value in general. Is all value relative? Why are value judgements made and who determines the value of something? Then, there is Cosmology, which is the study of the structure and organisation of the Universe, which is centred around the One Power, the Wheel and the Pattern itself. This branch obviously requires a great deal of study into the nature of the One Power and the way it affects the world."
On and on he went, through branch after branch. He had studied these so long hat they seeme to flow out of his mouth as naturally as one of those old songs his mother used to sing him.
"There is Epistomology, which is the study and evaluation of knowledge. For example, how do we know, what we know? And, are there limits to knowledge. Is intelligence predetermined, or are we able to increase it through learning? Is there such thing as free will, can any of us make decisions? And, finally . . . what is knowledge?" This last question hung in the air a moment, before Rossam continued. "It is fair to say, this subject can, often, cross with the goals of the Brown Ajah, so, perhaps, be prepared for some inter-Ajah co-operation if you decide to pursue Epistomology."
"The study of Ethics is my primary focus. Ethics is the study of morality. Does Good and Evil exist, and, if so, how does one determine if one is Good and Evil? Is justice a ridiculous concept, and can war ever be justified? How about Healing? Or the use of the Power in general? All of these questions are pertinent to out lives as Aes Sedai and Asha'man, and every great philosopher, at some point, has wrestled with these questions."
"Logic, a popular choice amongst White Ajah members, concerns itself with the process of correct thinking. Logic is the science that evaluates arguments, and is the tool philosophers use to examine and clarify ideas. Questions asked by those who study Logic include 's Logic objective?' and 'Who decides what is logic and is not that decision subjective?'"
"Metaphysics is the study of being, in general. What is reality, and what makes up reality? Closely linked to this is Ontology, the study of specific being. For example, what does it mean to be human? And what is human nature? This topic is closely linked to Ethics."
Rossam finished the, took a long gulp of water from the glass on his desk.
"So, these are the main concentrations of Philosophy. Of course, there are numerous sub-branches, but they are not important today. Should you aspire to the White, that is when you will be guided towards your speciality by members of the Ajah."
There was a moment, then, for the young ones to contemplate what they had been told.
"You've had a little bit of time to consider each concentration. Now, I would like you all to tell me which branch you think you would be interested in specialising in, should you aspire to, or be Raised to, the White Ajah."
OOC: That's it guys. Give me a post, detailing your choice of branch and why, and you're good to go!
Green Lesson (Aliana Sedai)
Aliana Sedai walked into the large auditorium before any students were due in for this lesson. This was to be the first class she would teach on her Ajah, she had taught other classes in the past and was happy for the opportunity to give a new lesson to a new of interested students. There was so much to every Ajah and the Green was no different, it had taken some effort to condense everything she knew of the Ajah into one lesson, but she?d managed it. She sat in a chair with a stack of papers on her lap, reading and writing as she awaited her students. When it seemed like all were here, she stood and walked to the forefront, folding her hands in front of her and smiling slightly.
?Welcome to you all and I?m glad to see so many interested in learning about the Green Ajah,? she began, ?I?m sure everyone has heard that the Green is called the Ajah of Battle and it is the truth. Today, I am going to discuss our past, present and our future. First off, I will give you a brief idea of our beginnings. Towards the end of the Second Age, there was no direct division of Ajahs among the channelers. However, in the blood of the Trolloc Wars of the Third Age, the Greens were born and once the seven were set, we were the Ajah of battle. We stood at the forefront of wars and are known to have been quite effective. Some credited it to the large number of Gaidin, born of the Green?s propensity to bond, which attended these battles beside us.
?Now, brawling battles is not all we were and are good at. It was a strategic mind that we also became known for. We stood as advisors to rulers all over the land, even Artur Hawkwing took a Green Sedai for his advisor after his peace with the white tower. We also took political strategy for our own. Out of forty-one Amyrlins of the White Tower, seven were Green and this might not sound like a lot, but out of the six Ajahs to raise from, seven makes the Green one of the most common Ajahs to be put as Amyrlin. We were second only to nine Greys and eleven Blues. In our own Tower, three our of seven Amyrlins, two out of eight Keepers and four out of eight Mistress of Novices have been Green. Insterestingly enough, however, we?ve never had a Green Master of Soldiers and are only on our first Green M?Hael.?
She paused for a breath, taking a quick look around the room, ?Today, you will often find the Grey Tower?s Green on travels, often towards the Blight, either on their own quests, as advisors, or as a representation of the Green on a mission for the Tower. We are often an added line of defense in those cases, along with the Warders, which we are often associated closely with and we are proud for it. We are both of the same clothe.
?When in the Tower, we are often training ? either in the Training Yards with the Warders perfecting our weaponry craft or the Channeling yards practicing our battle weaves. We also study the past for strategy and battle tactics.
?We don?t often look to the past, but for what we can learn and use now. We are one of the few Ajahs to spend much of our time looking to the future. We may be the only Ajah devoted to it. The sole higher purpose of the Green is to prepare for the day that Tarmon Gaidon comes. It is what we train for, ultimately, and what we look towards. I won?t say we? look happily forward to it,? she smiled slightly, ?But we stand for not flinching in the face of it, when it does come.?
There she stopped, for another breath and another look, ?I realize that was quite a bit of information, but from what you can remember, does anyone have any questions?? She finished and then settled in to her stance, to see what anyone had to say.
?I would like everyone to take out a piece of parchment, their quill and ink and give me a idea of what all you got from my lesson.?
Blue Lesson (Aviaine Sedai)
)Aviaine placed the last pin in her heavy chestnut locks and smiled; her reflection in the mirror returned the grin. With one last pat at her swept-back tresses and a swipe at her thin blue silk skirts, the Sitter turned and left her quarters, trekking down winding staircase after winding staircase until she reached the classroom Ai had told her about. Reaching out with one tanned, smooth arm, Aviaine turned the doorknob and entered the room.
She held a sheaf of papers loosely in her hand as she had her way to the desk at the head of the classroom. Turning, Aviaine surveyed the class in one quick, practiced motion. The Blue was glad to see many students she recognized. Many of the novices, of course, she knew by name and reputation; some were close friends with her own daughter or had baby-sat with her son. Others she knew not as well, though their faces -or names, as a quick glance at the roster told her- were familiar to her.
Clearing her throat, Aviaine set down the papers she held and folded her hands calmly over skirts. Light, how long had it been since she'd been in front of a classroom? She was glad Ai had asked her to teach the Blue portion of this class; it brought her teaching skills back into practice. Aviaine was afraid they had grown rusty with disuse. Clearing her throat once again, Aviaine began her lesson.
"Good afternoon, class. I am Aviaine Chaimere, Sitter for the Blue Ajah, and I will be instructing you today in the ways and history of the Blue Ajah." A friendly twinkle entered her eye as she spoke, and her low voice grew animated.
"The Blue Ajah has been a part of the Grey Tower since its founding. It is based around the same concept that began it in the White Tower, centuries ago; justice. We will come to that point in a minute. First, I would like to give you some facts about the Blue." Without thinking, Aviaine perched on the edge of the desk, a relaxed air settling around her shoulders as she continued.
"In the history of the Grey Tower, two Amyrlin Seats, Joaynna al'Jay Daleb and our current Revelin Alder, have been raised from the Blue Ajah, as has one of the M'Haels: Kobol Ironwing. In addition, the current Keeper of the Chronicles, Amora en'Damier Sedai, was a Blue before her raising to the Keeper's stole. We have had more than one Blue in the Mistress of Novices' office, including myself at one point." She smiled.
"The Blue Ajah has fluctuated dramatically since the Tower's beginning. Although we have enjoyed status before as the largest Ajah in the Tower, we have also been the smallest. Our enrollment currently resides in a medium between these two extremes, and we welcome with open arms any who show an interest in joining our cause.
"Because that is what the Blue Ajah is devoted to. Causes; or, more specifically, justice. Members of the Blue Ajah have devoted their life to the promotion of justice and fair treatment for all individuals. Most of us have chosen to channel this devotion into a specific cause about which we care deeply. Our Amyrlin's cause before she was raised was to promote the right of every person to choose the course of their own life. My own cause is to bring about the unification of the people of each nation in preparation for Tarmon Gai'don. We have had causes devoted to ending the wrongful treatment of channelers, causes concerning the abolishment of servitude, causes against Darkfriends. Whatever your heart calls to, in the Blue, you will be allowed to follow it.
"The Blue Ajah is unique in its openness. Rather than one specific goal, such as Healing or battle, we are concerned with the world as a whole, with raising the quality of life for every person, every member of society, in this life and the next. We devote ourselves to the past, the present, and the future." Aviaine smiled. "We are everywhere. Our presence can be felt here in Tower in the Hall of Justice. We mete out justice to those who petition the Tower for help. We serve in villages, in palaces, on land and on sea. The Blue Ajah goes wherever justice is needed.
"The members of our Ajah have several things in common. In the Blue, it is necessary to have enough conviction to be willing to give one's own life in promotion of our cause or for the betterment of some higher purpose. We also usually have a love for travel: Blues tend to spend much of their time away from the Grey Tower, working to bring about justice in the outside world. Also, and one of the things of which we are most proud, the Blue Ajah is a very closely knit society. We maintain close friendships with each other, supporting and helping each other to reach our causes. I myself am very proud to be a Blue."
Aviaine straightened. "I will open the floor for questions now. Feel free to ask anything you want."
