Lesson 1
Eve sat at her desk, calmly playing with the kitten on the floor. Or controlling it, rather, it was only an illusion. And illusion of a kitten playing with a green ball of yarn. As the first student entered, a Dedicated, she made the kitten appear to go to sleep. He would not be able to see that it was only a trick, but she saw a small smile on the face of the next student who entered, a novice who would be able to see the threads clearly.
As the students filed in, talking among themselves, Eve stood up. Her green fringed shawl hung on her shoulders. “Class will now begin,” she said in a quite voice. Quite, but loud enough so that everyone could hear. “I am Eve Sedai, and will be teaching you about Illusion. For some of you, this may come naturally. Others the weaves may be complex and will take much practice to master. Just be careful not to break any rules about channeling if you are a novice or soldier,” she said with a smile.
“If you are a soldier or Dedicated, please pick grab one of the ter’angreal rings from the basket so that you will be able to see my weaves. Please be sure to return it when you are done. Today we will be learning about something called Static Illusion. This is only useful to make inanimate objects with. We will later be learning how to make them move.”
She grabbed the One Power, resisting as always the urge to draw more. Untying the threads she had knotted on the kitten, it disappeared suddenly. “First you are going to use threads of fire and air to create the shape of the object.” She did just this, weaving the two together into the shape of a sword. It could be seen by normal eyes, but it was barely visible, being dull and slightly transparent. “Then use earth to give the object color. You will notice how using threads in different ways makes the colors different, it is not something that can easily be thought.” Eve then used threads of air, weaving them so that the blade was grey and the hilt a leather brown. After the student saw this she added more threads of earth so that it appeared the blade hilt was worn. Pretending to grasp the hilt of it with her hand, she said, “However, I don’t believe this would fool many people looking at it up close,” she said. Several of them nodded. “You can then use water to add certain effects such as making it metallic or reflective.” She wove threads of air into the blade part, and it seemed to shine like a real blade would.
“I would like everyone to practice this for a few minutes and once you get something please come and show me what you have done. And don’t worry if you don’t get it at first,” Eve said. She watched as the students tried the weave.
Lesson 2
Eve smiled as she continued to play with the kitten and the yarn ball. It now sat on her desk. As the students walked in, the could see it clearly. She was really enjoying teaching this class. She had taken it back in the days when she was Accepted and had then discovered her Talent for Illusion.
Rapping softly on the desk, the students looked up and fell quite. “Today we will be doing something similar to yesterday. I hope everyone had a chance to practice what we learned last class.” Looking around, she saw that some were nodding there heads while others looked elsewhere, eyes down. “However, today we will be making our objects move. This is called Dynamic Illusion.” She held out a hand to the kitten, causing the ball of yarn to get away from it. As the kitten ran after it they both disappeared. “It looks very realistic, but looks are the only thing you can really get out of the weave. Just as the one we did yesterday, you can not touch, hear, smell, or taste it. It is only for looks, and if anyone gets close enough to touch it they will realize it is but a simple trick. Still, it can be rather useful at times.
“Now, to do this you are going to start by making your object as we did yesterday.” She did this, making a weave of kitten sitting on her table. “You will then fill the joints with Spirit, and attach threads of Spirit to control it. It’s just like a puppet, you can only move it in the places you put the spirit.” The kitten stood up and stretched, it’s back arching.
“Any Questions? Same as yesterday, practice it a bit and then show me what you have.”
Lesson 3
Eve sat motionless in her chair, watching as her students filed in. The females looked straight at her, seeing the weaves that concealed her. As the males came in they looked around a bit, wondering where their teacher was. As they picked up their ter’angreal rings, understanding came onto there faces as soon as they could see the weaves.
“Convincing to the naked eye, isn’t it?” Eve remarked as she let go of the weaves. “Today we will be learning about a weave called Folded Light. This will allow you to hide completely from anyone who cannot see the threads.”
“To do this weave, you will use mainly fire and air, and also spirit and water. First you will create vertical strands of air, then weave in horizontal strands of fire. This by itself will hide you some, but anyone who looks closely will notice something strange about what they are looking at, almost as if there is a dull patch in an otherwise normal wall. To solve this you will then add in threads of water and spirit into the joints between the vertical and horizontal threads. You can then bend the net around yourself, or another object for that matter.” As she spoke, she wove the threads, bending it around her body so that only her head showed. A few of the students smiled as an Aes Sedai’s head seemed to float in the air.
“Once again, this weave will only work so long as the person you are trying to trick is only looking at it. Anyone who walked up to you could still run into you an know that there was something there. Also, you must stay perfectly still in order to trick anyone.” Demonstrating, she moved her right hand so that the students could see the blur. Letting the weave go, she released the source as well.
“Some of you may have trouble with this weave, and if you do don’t try hiding your whole body. Start with hiding just a part. You can also use this weave to hide another object you do not want seen. Let me know when you have something."
Lesson 4
Eve walked towards her room briskly, though not so fast that it appeared she was hurrying. It never looked good for an Aes Sedai to hurry. She opened the door to the room, thankful that none of her students were early. She really enjoyed teaching this class. Having never been the type to like being in control, it was helping her to learn what it was like to be Aes Sedai.
“Welcome students,” she said after they had all filed in. “Today we will be learning something called Mirror of Mists. It will allow you to appear larger. We will also be learning a simple weave to amplify your voice. It is very similar to Folded Light, but without the water. You will weave a mat of fire and air, making it as large as you want to grow. You will then tie threads of spirit at the joints, and tie it on the joints.” She did this, and suddenly she appeared to be 12 feet tall, her head appearing to touch the ceiling. “For the other you will weave air in a funnel and put it up to your mouth. THIS WILL AMPLIFY YOUR VOICE, HOW MUCH DEPENDS ON THE SIZE OF YOUR FUNNEL.” Letting the weave go, she seemed to shrink back to normal size.
“As you can see, this weave can be very threatening. Some of you may not be able to ‘grow’ as large as others. See what you can do.” Eve smiled as the students began to try the weave.
Lesson 5
As she heard the door squeak open, Eve put down the book she had been reading and looked up. The students filed in quickly, not wanting to be late, especially not for a class taught by an Aes Sedai. When the last student closed the door, she stood up.
“Today will be our last subject explored in this class. The next time will be the final, in which you will be tested on everything you have learned. Be sure you practice. Now on to today’s topic.
“Today we will be learning how to change your appearance. This is very useful, as you would guess, if you are trying to disguise yourself. Large changes are difficult for most, but even just changing small things can make you look like a different person. Most major changes, such as your sex and such are almost impossible. You can change your height and weight, though only slightly.
“Start by weaving a mat of spirit over the part you wish to change. Then use air and fire to mold how you want, and attach it to the spirit. To make a color change, add in earth to the weave, though depending on what you are changing this may be unnecessary.” Eve did these things as she spoke, weaving it so that her hair became long and curly, turning deep black.
“Go ahead and try. It may seem simple, but it’s a rather complicated weave. For this class I’m only wanting you to try to change one thing about yourself.”
Final
Eve stood behind her desk, waiting for all the students to come in. “Welcome, class. Today will be your final. I hope everyone practiced.
“For the final I want you to make a show using all of the different Illusions we have learned. I would like to see a little creativity in what you do, just so long as I see all four of them. You will pass this class when I see Dynamic Illusion, Folded Light, Mirror of Mists, and Disguise. You have a few minutes to think about it.”
After about five minutes, she said, “We will go one at a time. Who would like to go first?”
OOC: Just post your email if you want me to send you a certificate for passing the class.
