The Teacher-Student Contract
(Or Suggested Class Etiquette)
Class Listings - Class Archive - Back to the Tower - How to Write a Class
1) To not join a class without, at least, the intent to complete it.
2) If need arises to take a Shara or depart the class, to notify the Teacher (if a student) or notify the Students (if a Teacher.)
3) To try to check the Class Message Board and reply with respectful frequency, perhaps once a week or more.
Suggestions for Future Classes: OOC
Do your research first, and then consider creating a teaching/discussion group on the area. It's more rewading than copying out pages of The World of the Wheel.
- HTML
- A class on how to write basic HTML is always a great idea: there's a constant supply of new people wondering where all the come from.
- Cultures of Randland: where did they come from?
- What influences did RJ use to create the various cultures? Do people from around the world see parts of their own cultures in any of the books?
- Crazy Theories
- Who Killed Asmodean? Who was Sheriam talking to? Who is Moridin? Who is Taim?
- How To Write
- Introducing characters, setting atmosphere and tone, making life interesting for characters and readers...a class like this from a skilled writer could help people with roleplaying posts, and in writing other fiction.
- The Wheel of Time vs Other Fantasy
- Just why are there so many similarities between RJ and Terry Goodkind? Is RJ a revolutionary writer, or just using different words for the same old things? Is he the new Tolkien?
Suggestions for Future Classes: IC
Make up a scenario which places people with you in a classroom with the potential for interesting things to happen, and then roleplay it! You're not lecturing people's players on the facts of the Wheel of Time: your character and their characters are having a learning experience based only on what they know: you could teach something that's completely untrue if you want: it's IC! Make the classes dynamic.
- History of the Grey Tower
- You'd be surprised at how many people are interested in this, and there's lots to find out. Maybe arrange special guest appearances by Ancient members, and make sure you do your research in advance.
- Word Manipulation
- How do Aes Sedai learn to mislead and deceive without speaking a word that is untrue? They have a class on it, of course!
- Horrible Dissection
- Browns are very interested in the natural world, and Greens are interested in Shadowspawn: how about doing a OP dissection on a Trolloc? Sounds a bit messy, but the potential for interesting RP is there when the students start objecting!
- Art
- The One Power has been used to create many things of beauty: can you teach people to do this?
- Family History
- Get all your students to discuss the histories of their family and background: this gives their players the chance to flesh out their character, and your character the chance to show off his/her knowledge of nobilty, history and heritage.
These are just a few suggestions, feel free to use any of them, but feel even freer to make up your own new ideas: try and think outside the box, and the class will be much more interesting, dynamic and rewarding.
