Ability Listing - Ability Discovery Form - Talent Listing

Certain abilities may or may not be linked to the One Power, but may be exhibited even in those who cannot channel it directly. They are not part of the Talents system, but they do consume Talent Points. These are almost all very rare, for channelers and non-channelers alike, and most people will not have any of them. The following restrictions apply:

  • 1) Each person may have only one Ability. A character may have both Dreaming and Dreamwalking as a single choice, but may in all other cases have only one Ability; it is extremely rare to have one, let alone two.
  • 2) In order to apply for a special ability, you must be of the intermediate Accepted/Dedicated/Ji'alantin rank or higher. To apply for an Ability as a Novice, Soldier, or Drin'far'ji, the Ability must have been mentioned specifically in your biography when you arrived at the Grey Tower.
  • 3) Channelers may not have the Wolfkin ability.
  • 4) You must complete the non-channeling Ability form for your ability. This includes providing proof that you have completed one or both of the following two requirements:
a) A fanfic describing how you discovered the Ability, and any experiences you may have had with it so far. This fanfic will be submitted to the Library if the application is accepted.

OR

b) A roleplay thread of suitable length and detail with either someone else who has the ability or a fully Raised member of the Tower, preferably a member of the Indigo Ajah. The roleplay should involve the discovery of the special ability, the exploration of it, or a similar suitable aspect of the ability which the person is applying for.
If either of the requirements is judged to be unsatisfactory (if it is short or of poor quality), you may be asked to reapply when you have better fulfilled the requirement.

If the requirements are met and your application accepted, you will have your ability listed on the Non-channeling Abilities table, and you may feel free to use it in your roleplays.

With the few exceptions, listed below, these are all innate abilities which cannot be learned or taught. They do consume Talent Points, however it is up to you to imagine, decide, and roleplay how strong they are. Please do not God-Mode.

Ta'veren:

Ta'veren is a fleeting Ability. Only a handful of people have been ta'veren for very long, or very strongly in all of known history, including what is known of the Age of Legends. Consequently all applicants for this ability are to send a written request to be approved on a case by case basis. Male characters should contact the M'Hael, female characters the Amyrlin Seat, with a detailed description outlining your reasons for requesting the ability and its intended purpose. The Amyrlin and M'Hael have the final word on whether or not to approve your request. Should they feel it unethical to decide your case then they will defer the decision to the Indigo Ajah Head.

Wolfkin:

Channelers cannot be Wolfkin. The ones we still have will remain as such, but no new characters of this type shall be allowed.

If you wish to be Wolfkin, within that comes the ability to dream of the future and walk in the Wolf Dream. Each Wolfkin has some ability at predictions and actions within the Wolf Dream (Tel'aran'rhiod), but this varies, and you decide how much control you have. The Wolf Dream may be very similar to Dreaming and Dreamwalking, and since Wolfkin may appear to channelers as a way of getting extra abilities 'free' or 'two for the price of one', but please remember, being Wolfkin is very rare, and comes with additional burdens: people will shun you, you will slowly go insane, turn wolf. Not to mention the bright yellow eyes that are the most obvious sign of the ability.

Wolfkin is an absolute state (there is no such thing as a wolf half-brother) and as such it is always listed on the Abilities table with five pips in the strength column. However, in addition there are degrees to the condition, represented by a number between one and four. This is explained in the table below. Note: If you reported your wolfkin ability before this ruling came into effect, please contact the First Seeker to identify your current stage.

Stage Explaination WoT Example Pips
Newbie The Wolfkin is just discovering his/her abilites, and may not show the distinctive yellow eyes yet. He or she may have some inkling that something strange is going on, but would probably not understand that wolves were talking to him/her. Perrin in the Eye of the World
Wolf-Man The Wolfkin is aware of his/her abilities, and is begining to master them, most likely communicating regularly with wolves and entering the wolf-dream. He or she may even have a wolf-brother or -sister, a wolf who acts as his or her guide. Perrin early in the series
Man-Wolf The wolfkin has mastered his or her abilities, but is begining to have trouble asserting his/her humanity over the wolf instincts. He or she may spend time with or live amoung a wolf pack. He or she may have fits of wolf-like behaviour. Perrin in the later half of the series, Elyas Machera
Lunatic The wolfkin has lost most or all of his or her humanity, and is basically a wolf living in a human body. Noam
