This page contains a list of the Grey Tower's equestrian roster.
You will find here not a list of basic horses, but of steeds that have made a
mark within the world of the Grey Tower.
In order to have your horse's information posted here, you must
supply the horses name, breed (in medieval/WoT terms,) a brief description and small
biography, and send the information to
The Grey Tower.
Another great source of information about our four legged
friends can be found Here.
You can find basic information about horses and horse-back riding.

| Aiko Navoo | Cloud | Courser | Cloud is a horse in her prive, and is speckeled black, white, and gray. | Aiko received Cloud on her sixteenth name day, from her older brother Elias. Her brother wanted to teach her how to hunt, and thought she could use a good horse. Aiko has never been a hunter, but she has had a great many adventures with Cloud. She is a determined horse, but she does get skittish when there are to many things going on around her, and has difficulty around what she perceives as strange people. She is easily calmed by Aiko when upset, and adores her rider. She tends to kick, and buck if anyone approaches her. |
| Catieri al'Cardyn | Niende (Nini for short) | Tairen bloodstock mare | A dappled grey mare with elegant lines that belie her mulish temperament. | Nini was a stroke of good luck for Catieri. Her previous mount had bolted after being bitten by a snake, and while the snake was not venomous, the panicked flight proved fatal when the gelding put his foot into a rabbit hole and shattered the bone in his right foreleg. Cat caught up--afoot--too late to save him from the kindly farmer who had ended the horse's misery. Resigned, she shouldered her saddlebags and awkwardly bore the saddle along the dirt road, feeling a bit lost, until a band of Traveling People came across her and offered to sell her a fine, elegant lady who was trailing behind one of their brightly painted wagons. Catieri was too grateful at the providence of the Wheel (and the wandering of the Tuatha'an) to bargain well, and paid at least half again what the mare was worth. |
| Dheren Ceraen (PSC) | Cor | Destrier | Bred to pastoral gentility but raised to carry men into battle, Cor is a nearly black brown stallion with a loyal heart and fiery temper. | Cor was purchased from an old friend of Dheren's, Geir, a Shienaran soldier who retired to Mayene when the cold northern winters grew too cold for his old bones. The man married a wealthy widow and tends her olive plantation, mostly content with his quiet new life. Cor was one of the second-generation results of his experimentation crossbreeding the Tairen Bloodstock his wife keeps for riding and the Dhurron draft horses he uses to haul wagons and till the garden (besides premium olives and crossbred horses, he also produces more than enough onions, garlic, and other vegetables for use on the plantation). The resulting horses are swift, strong, elegant creatures, capable of carrying a man in full armor and trained to carry their riders into battle. |
| Kailitha d'ra Din | Cal'kiserai | Chocolate Flax | He is what is called a silver dapple in his coloring or chocolate flax. A chocolate horse is a black horse with a silver dapple gene modifying the black body to a shade of brown/chocolate, and lightening the mane & tail to slate, flaxen, white, or silver. His are slate. Though the picture shows a more common white to the tail and mane.
| Cal'kiserai was loaned to Kailitha when she was tested to be raised to Gaidar. In the incident that followed, he saved her life twice, the second time almost killed him. So now he has a scar on his belly. And it is how he got the name Red Glory. Prior to the test she didn't like horses and often found them distasteful but Cal'kiserai changed that all for her. She bought him after she was raised and she has brought him everywhere she has done since. She trusts this one animal to protect her more than any other living creature. |
| Kain Thresher | Black Flame | Charger | Black Flame is a large black colored charger, with a battle scar on his ribs. He is well trained to do what he does, and will only allow calm individuals to handle him. | Found as a colt, half starved and near death by Kain and some others, Kain took the initiative, saving the colt and earning the horses loyalty. The mystery as to why the colt was abandoned in a depilated farm in the countryside of Cairhien is still a mystery. They have ridden throughout the land for several years together. Man and horse reached their physical prime together, helping strengthen the bond between them. |
| Lysira 'Mouse' Viathene | Dazar | Courser | Dazar is a grey with white dappling across his chest. Like many horses bred and trained for combat, he has a broad chest, strong flanks and a deeply crested neck. His mane and tail are made of white and black hair. He has no facial markings but for some dark grey hairs around his nose, and he has three black socks and one white sock. | Dazar was purchased as Mouse's first steed from the Mylls family farm, with the assistance of Miahala Sedai. He has a calm nature and has been trained for mounted archery, as well as the basic and advanced levels of riding and some of the more basic combat training. The gelding has proven himself to be a very suitable first horse for the silent Gaidar. |
| Sarayne Alcair | Kiserai | Shire & Saldaean Calvary Mix | An average size for a Saldaean Calvary Horse, Kiserai stands at 15 hands tall. Her coloring is black, with a thick stripe of white down the center of her face and Shire characteristic white feathered stockings. She has a long, lean neck and is more muscular than a typical Saldaean Calvary Horse. Kiserai is a very friendly horse, which is both a virtue and a vulnerability. | Storm and Snapdragon were the horses of Sarayne's parents. Storm had been her father's, a grey Shire stallion, and Snapdragon had been her mother's, a black Saldaean calvary horse. As merchants, they did a lot of traveling, and so they needed good horses. Snapdragon was small and quick, while Storm was thick and muscular for pulling their load. Shortly after her parents' deaths, Snapdragon gave birth to a foal. As they had inherited their parents horses, Sarayne's older sisters had no need of the foal and so she became Sarayne's responsibility, and new friend. Kiserai had been a word in the Old Tongue that Sarayne had read in one of the very few books her sisters brought back from their travels. According to the book, it meant 'glory,' and it sounded a nice name for a horse, and so the foal had been named. As the years passed, Kiserai and Sarayne grew together, their trust in one another solidifying with time. |
| Ysolde Sirad | Quill | Mountain Pony | A sweet, sure-footed old pony with a shaggy brown coat and puppy-dog eyes. | Ysolde purchased Quill at Whitebridge during the course of her flight from Illian. Not being a good judge of horseflesh, she ended up with a pony of poor quality and paid at least twice as much as he was worth. Still, Quill served her well enough as she traveled from village to village until she settled in Elman's creek, and he now enjoys being pampered and growing fatter still in the Grey Tower's stables while his mistress studies as a Novice--he gets too little exercise and too many sugar lumps at present. |
